VP, Sales and Marketing - Columbia, Maryland

SUMMARY

Manages the Company's sales and marketing activities and actively participates in building relationships directly with specific Government agencies or subcontractors, working on behalf of these agencies; participates in formulating and administering API's policies by performing the following duties personally or through other available resources:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and implements strategic sales plans to accommodate corporate goals.
  • Directs sales forecasting activities and sets performance goals accordingly.
  • Reviews market analysis to determine customer needs, price schedules, and discount rates.
  • Directs staffing, training, and performance evaluations to develop and control sales program.
  • Assigns sales territory to sales representatives.
  • Develops and executes strategies for establishing partnership and business relationships with companies and government organizations to directly or indirectly increase the sales of products and services.
  • Seeks out and researches prospective projects through meetings, phone calls, travel, attending conferences, trade shows and utilizing the Internet.
  • Works closely with internal departments and external partners and allies in the development and implementation of strategies, plans, and business models.
  • Estimates demand for proposed projects based on market research and consumer trends.
  • Works to ensure requirements are defined and met according to plan.
  • Provides support to upper management in deal negotiations, contract development, due diligence, and other business development or alliance development projects.
  • Manages Program Management function to ensure that products are produced and delivered on time and within budget.
  • Works with marketing to plan marketing and promotion, including advertising, review media, specials sales, and subsidiary rights.
  • Participates in formulating and administering API policies and developing long range goals and objectives.
  • Strives to ensure that the Sales and Marketing Department and other API departments work to achieve the corporate goals and objectives within the budget guidelines.
 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises multiple direct reports within the Sales & Marketing department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; five to ten years’ experience selling IT products; 4+ years selling to the US Intelligence Community, and previous management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

COMPUTER SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to travel overnight on an occasional basis. Regular, local and international travel is required.
 
Current, valid Driver's license.  
Security clearance: TS required, SCI strongly preferred.
