Senior Account Manager - Columbia, Maryland

SUMMARY

Uncovers, develops and manages sales opportunities. Sells corporate products to business and industrial establishments or individuals by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from ad inquiries, trade shows, direct mail responses, business directories, Internet Web sites, and other sources.
  • Makes outbound lead follow-up calls to potential and existing customers by telephone and e-mail to qualify leads and sell products and services.
  • Develops and executes sales plans congruent with corporate objectives.
  • Handles inbound sales lead calls to convert calls into sales.
  • Overcomes technical and business objections of prospective customers.
  • Provides product demos to qualified customers on request.
  • Emphasizes salable features, quotes prices and credit terms, and prepares sales orders for orders obtained.
  • Estimates date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of own firm's production and delivery schedules.
  • Builds and maintains customer relationships.
  • Prepares reports of business transactions.
  • Enters new customer data and other sales data for current customers into computer database.
  • Creates and submits forecasts and territory reports in a timely manner.
  • Investigates and resolves customer problems with deliveries.
  • Travels to and attends trade shows.
  • Regularly attends meetings and functions at company office in Columbia, MD.
 

TRAVEL

Occasional overnight travel is expected. Regular local travel is required.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B.S. /B.A) or equivalent.
Five to ten years experience selling IT products.
3+ years experience selling to the US Intelligence Community.
Must have security clearance: TS required, SCI strongly preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
